WHITMAN, Frank Lawrence – 89yrs, of North Kingston, NS formerly of Margaretsville passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Born in Meadowvale, he was the only son of the late Fred and Lena (Foster) Whitman. After graduating from high school, he attended Normal College in Truro graduating in 1942. He taught for 36 years teaching 29 of those years at Middleton Regional High School. He also taught in Grand Pré, Torbrook and Kingston. He joined the army when the war broke out and taught army courses in Sydney and Debert. Frank took the Canadian Army course at Acadia University and graduated from there in 1948 with Bachelor of Arts. Frank was instrumental in beginning the AnnaVale Co-op and was the Administration Officer with 517 F/Lt Graham Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and he also started the Cadet Camp at Cloud Lake. He was an Assistant Probation Officer with Kings County until his retirement. He loved his hobby farm in Margaretsville with his trout ponds, camp, wood lot and animals. He is survived by his wife of 21 years the former Judy Sarsfield; daughters, Carolyn Richer Lafleche, Meadowvale; Nadine Spencer, Medicine Hat; stepson; Brett (Janet) Phinney, Goshen, NS; stepdaughter, Andrea (Scott) Bishop, North Kingston; half-sister, Marion Tidd, Meadowvale; sister-in-law, Jan Sarsfield (Ron Stonier), Coldbrook; grandchildren, Joel Bryant; Joey Spencer; Richard Spencer; Ashley Spencer, all of Alberta; step grandchildren, Brooklyn and Emily Bishop, North Kingston; Leo and Logan Phinney, Goshen, NS and several great grandchildren. By Frank’s request, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service was held 11:00AM Monday, August 5, 2013 in the Pine Grove Cemetery, New Albany with Rev. Leon Langille officiating. Donations in Frank’s memory may be made to the Pine Grove Cemetery, New Albany, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Lupus Society of Nova Scotia.
