BROWN, ROBERT - The death of Robert Vernon (Bob) Brown, 77, of Amherst occurred Saturday, August 3, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre after a short illness. Born in 1936 in Brookdale, Robert was the son of Vernon and Lillian (Brooks) Brown. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norine (Chapman) Brown; one daughter, Cathy (Jim) Murphy of Moncton; one son, Randy of Moncton; two grandchildren, Zachary and Hilary, both of Moncton; sister-in-law, Elsie Brown of Amherst. He is also survived by one sister, Judy (Ken) Canton of Amherst; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Brown of Amherst. Bob will be remembered by many in the Amherst area for his years as an actor in local productions. He acted in numerous productions, including having various roles in Storybook Theatre presentations at Tidnish Bridge. Bob was honoured with a Queen's Silver Jubilee medal for his work with the Nova Scotia militia. He rose to the rank Officer during his 23 years of service, and was one of few civilians to receive this honour. Bob also was active in Sea Cadets for several years in Amherst. Bob enjoyed a good retirement after 30 years with the federal public service. He worked at the Nappan Experimental Farm, National Research Council in Halifax and retired from Environment Canada in Moncton.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-9906). Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm from Campbell's chapel with the Rev. Charlotte Ross officiating. Reception will follow in the Knights of Columbus hall.
