Sheila Burgess

BURGESS, SHEILA - Sheila Mary Burgess, 96, of New Canaan passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013 following a rich and full life. Born in Charfield, England she served in the Second World War in the European Theatre and in the Middle East as a nurse. She married her beloved Harry in 1946 and came to Canada as a war bride aboard the Queen Mary. They settled in New Canaan where she lived out her life on the banks of the beautiful Canaan River. For many years she worked together with her husband in their family business and she also operated the General Store. Anglican by faith she was a longtime attendant of the former Saint Paul's Anglican Church in Havelock and the A.C.W. there. She was a member Canaan River Senior, the N.B. War Brides Association and a former Auxiliary member of the Havelock Br. Royal Canadian Legion #86. Sheila enjoyed reading and history, but was most happy in the company of her family. Survived and sadly missed by her children, Derek (Susan) of New Canaan, Sam (Becky) of Fredericton, Pam McCully (Daryl) of New Canaan, Trevor of Salisbury and Rosalie Burgess of Salisbury; cherished grandchildren, Scott Burgess, Shawna Geldart, Todd Burgess, Naomi Young, Fabian McCully, Bradley McCully, Janna McCully, Fonda Calhoun, Megan Burgess and Dylan Burgess; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, Harry (1987); and brother, Ted Goscombe. Sheila was the last surviving member of her family.
Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visiting Tuesday, August 6, from 6 to 9 pm and from where the funeral will take place in the chapel on Wednesday, August 7 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Canon Albert Snelgrove officiating. Following the reception there will be a private committal at Evergreen Cemetery, Sussex. If desired, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, the IWK or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. www.keirsteads.ca
