Edwina Stepaniak, 68, of MacLeod Avenue, New Waterford, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Johannah ‘Josie’(Hogan) Hogan from Northern Bay, Newfoundland.
Edwina was once employed at the Royal Bank several years ago. She was a very compassionate lady who loved her family. Edwina loved to cook and bake and many times made food for the CWL functions. She was a very private woman who was a great listener. Edwina also had a great sense of humour.
Edwina is survived by her loving husband, Blair Stepaniak; one daughter, Tammy (Donald) MacKinnon, Sydney River; one son, David (Rhonda Beaton), Gardiner Mines; four grandchildren, Micaela, Tessa, Sarah and Noah. Also surviving is Edwina’s brother, Lawrence Hogan; her sister, Gen (Vince) Rose; brother-in-law, Ernie (Mary) Stepaniak; sister-in-law, Betty MacLean and numerous, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her tarabish and bingo buddies in Boisdale and Mira.
Edwina was predeceased by her infant son, Robert Stepaniak.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Ray Huntley is Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church followed by a reception in St. Leonard’s Hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Edwina, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Association.
