Holmes, Judith Olive “Judy”; We regret to announce the passing of Judith Olive “Judy” Holmes, 58, of Greenfield, which occurred Saturday, August 3, 2013 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Truro. Born and raised in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Gladys (Brown) Richardson. Judy was a graduate of the Halifax Infirmary School of Nuclear Medicine (1976) and pursued that career for many years. In Edmonton, Sydney, Antigonish and Charlottetown. She went on to receive a Master Gardiner Certificate from the Nova Scotia Agriculture College in 2009, and spent many, many happy hours tending her gardens. She also devoted many hours as a Certified Adult Literacy Tutor in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Know for her musical talents, she was an internationally published author and composer. This gift she shared with the Greenfield United Church where she served as Choir Director, Elder, member of the UCW and contributed to various other groups within the church. She is survived by her loving husband Stephen (Steve) Angus Holmes. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Heather and Weston MacDonald, and a special aunt and uncle, Olive and Archie MacPherson, all of Glace Bay. Judy always believed that if a job was worth doing, it was worth doing well, and demonstrated this work ethic in everything she did. She learned to ski, play piano and violin, cook and garden with the determination it took not just to be successful, but exceptional. She was a loyal friend, and she and Steve bonded with many people in her community. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, from where Judy’s family will receive friends between the hours of 2 ~ 4 and 7 ~ 9pm Tuesday, August 6. Funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday, August 7, in the Greenfield United Church with Rev. Mary White officiating. A reception will follow in the church basement. By Judy’s request, family flowers only. Memorial gifts in Judy’s memory may be made to the Greenfield United Church or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
