Thomas 'Tommy' Hewer

Tommy passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax, following a brief illness.
Born in Sydney and raised in Whitney Pier, Tommy was a son of the late Bill and Annie Hewer.
For 30 years, Tommy volunteered at Loaves & Fishes, retiring in April 2013, due to ill health. He was a fixture at the Sydney Post Office selling the Cape Breton Post for many years. Tommy participated as a runner in the Special Olympics and formerly resided at Resi Care.
He is survived by his sisters, Delores (Phil) Arsenault, Tressa, Dee Dee (Jim) Wadden, Anna, with whom he resided and Queenie; brothers, Eddie (his twin), Billy and Michael (Brenda).
Besides his parents, Tommy was predeceased by his brother, Frankie.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday 2 p.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. He will be interred at Hardwood Hill Cemetery with his father.
