Viola Irene Nemeth, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Aug. 28, 2013, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Sydney on Jan. 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Christina (Packer) McCarron.
Viola was a nurse by profession, having graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1947. She lived her life in Sydney spending the last 3 1/2 years residing at Celtic Court where she made many new friends. She will be especially missed there by her dear friend, Florence Nolan who took Mum under her wing from the day she first arrived.
Mum was a very caring and loving woman who spent her life taking care of others. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards and doing her daily crosswords. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and loved them very much, as evidenced by the following verse Mum recited to them when they were young:“If you love me like I love you, no knife can cut our love in two.”
She leaves behind her six children, Frank (Marie), Susan Dixon (Gaye), Jim (Jocelyn), Jane Lunn (Carlton), Margaret MacLeod (Donnie) and Joe (Willena), along with 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also left are her sisters, Christina Galloway, Sheila Tynski, Colleen Tanner and her brother, Terry McCarron.
Viola was predeceased by her husband, Frank in 2001, sister, Catherine Kolonko, brothers, Roddie and Jim, as well as her daughter-in-law, Susan (Digou) Nemeth.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Nemeth will take place on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Church with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
