From The Liberandos: “Honoring 1st Lt. Edgar L Johnson, World War II veteran, USAAF, at the B-24 Memorial Flight Museum, Balboa Park, San Diego, California, for his service to his country. He piloted as Commander a B-24 Liberator Bomber 50 missions, particularly low-level raids destroying the Ploesti oil fields, crucial to ending the war, without losing a man or plane.”
The death of Edgar L Johnson occurred Aug. 16, 2013, in San Diego with cremation following. He was 92 and married to his surviving wife, Marjorie, for 72 years. They had three daughters, Judith, Rebecca and Linda, with a large extended family. On Aug. 31, a celebration of his life was held at Linda Vista Presbyterian Church. On Sept. 11, “Patriots’ Day,” with an Air Force Honor Guard, there will be a ceremony at Fort Rosecrans National Military Cemetery on Point Loma, a white-glove, flag-folding ceremony with “Taps,” followed by interment. Johnson was the brother and only sibling of Marilynn Linkletter, uncle of Scott Linkletter (Margaret), Susan Linkletter (Frank Hennessey), grand uncle of Lucas Linkletter, all of Prince Edward Island; grand uncle of Lindsay Linkletter (Scott Mac Donald), great-grand uncle of Maren and Calum MacDonald of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
