MCLEOD- Ian Malcolm McLeod passed away on August 20, 2013 at the Cypress Hills Regional Hospital in Swift Current, Sask. at the age of 78. He was born on February 5, 1935 in Vanguard Sask. and was the youngest son of Dan and Isabella McLeod. Ian was raised in the Glen Bain community and had lived on the family farm all of his life except for the last years when he had retired to live in Swift Current. Ian will be remembered as a farmer who was very interested in the latest farming practices and machinery. He was fortunate to have been able to farm with his son, Gordon, for many years. Ian was a lifetime member of the School Trustees Association, a member of the Coop board, Lions Club, the Glen Bain community club and an RM Councillor from 1988 to 1995. Ian took great pride in his community and his heritage there. He was especially proud of the century family farm award that was presented to his family. He still looked forward to the visits to the farm, the Glen Bain coop and seeing the crops. Ian had a passion for woodworking. Ian spent many, many hours in the woodwork shop making picture frames, spice racks, turntables, deacon benches, desks, and even china cabinets just to mention a few items. He was very precise during the measuring, cutting, sanding and staining - each job had to be PERFECT!! Ian was an avid reader and would read all kinds of material whether it be sports, history, hunting or just a good book. Ian was the person who had an abundance of knowledge of the past and of so many people who had moved away and left the Glen Bain District. This was a great help when the Glen Bain Historical Society was complying the information for the Glen Bain History Book. Playing cards was a great pastime for the McLeod’s whether it was with family or friends. Card playing was never so serious that Ian couldn’t find time to tell a good story or a joke. Since moving to Swift Current, Ian and his wife, Shirley, became keen Bronco’s fans. They have both held season tickets there for the last 17 years. Ian was predeceased by his parents; Dan and Isabella McLeod; siblings, Alex, John, David, Gertrude and Chris. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley (nee Condie); daughter, Dianne (Marty) Falconer of Glentworth and their children, Denver, Tyson (Tenille), Jacey (Evan), daughter, Heather (Blair) Achter of Saskatoon and their children, Lindsay (Cam), Brittany (Travis), daughter, Cathy (Ken) Tkachuk of Hafford and their children, Chandra, Kacy, Colby, and son Gordon (Darcy) McLeod of Kincaid and their children, Shelby and Mason; great-granddaughter Veda Achter-Young. Ian is also survived by his brother Don McLeod of Saskatoon as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at the Glencaid United Church, Kincaid, SK, with Reverend Mathias Ross officiant. Fond Memories of Ian were prepared by the family and read by Leverne and Fay Silzer. Special songs “Who Has Seen This Wind” and “Homeward Bound” were shared by Kacy Tkachuk and Shelby McLeod.
