Sylvia Richard

RICHARD, SYLVIA - Sylvia D. Richard, 96, on a peaceful country morning, and with characteristic grace and dignity, our Mom passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche, which was her home away from home for the last year and eight months. Born March 21, 1917, in Botwood, Newfoundland, she was the youngest child of the late Blanche June (Jewer) Arthur and John Parkinson Arthur. Mom and her three brothers were raised in Liverpool by their aunt, Anne Lawrence. After marrying Dad in 1938, she moved to Halifax and began another phase of her life as a wonderful wife and Mom. She devoted much of her time and talent to Saint Matthias Church, where she served as long-time president of the Tuesday Evening Group, as a Girls Auxiliary leader, a choir member, an usher and on the Parish Council. On occasion, she played the organ as she was an accomplished and knowledgeable musician. Following the death of our Dad in 1977, she volunteered for 15 years in the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Hospital. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Stadford; brothers, Harold, Jim, Leon; special aunt, Anne Lawrence. She is survived by her daughters, Rosalee (Dr. John C.) Acker, Rothesay, New Brunswick; Patricia (Don) Farmer, Bedford; Susan (Barrie) Baker, Tatamagouche; ten grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; special nieces, Lynn and Sharon Arthur; sister-in-law, Ruby Gray, Bridgewater. She was blessed to have made many loving and caring friends throughout her lifetime.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013, in The Anglican Church of the Apostles, corner of Bayers Road and Connaught Avenue, Halifax, Father Mark Marshall officiating, assisted by The Reverend Don Shipton. Reception will follow in the church hall. There will be a private interment at Fort Point Cemetery, LaHave. Family flowers only. To honour Mom’s memory, be happy, live well and along your path remember to be kind to others. If so desired, donations may be made to Willow Lodge Home For Special Care, 100 Blair Avenue, Tatamagouche, NS B0K 1V0.
