Eunice Gwendolyn MCKENNEY (Abriel)
September 29, 1929 to September 8, 2013
Gwen passed away peacefully in the early morning of September 8, 2013 at Elk Court, Brookfield, Nova Scotia. Gwen was born in Halifax, NS, the daughter of the late Hazel and Joseph Abriel. She attended Tower Road School and QEH where she was an exemplary student achieving scholarships in art, french and music. Gwen went on to enroll in nursing at the Victoria General Hospital and was an active member of the Women's Axillary Corps. (WACS). After passing her RN exam, she traveled to Vancouver where she worked with the VON and met her future husband, Neale. Gwen's other interests included bridge, real estate and in her later years vacationing with her family. Gwen was a very active and loving mother to her sons, Roderick and Gregory. Gwen was predeceased by her husband, Neal; brother, George and her sisters, Elsie and Amy. Gwen is survived by her sons, Roderick McKenney (Wanda Brown) and Gregory McKenney (Linda Blakey); nephew, Don; grandchildren, Christopher, Alexander, Matthew, Katharine, Leah, Lauren and Ceilidh. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday September 28th, 2013 at 3 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with visitation taking place from 2 pm until time of the service at 3 pm, Rev. Boyd Vincent officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gwen to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
