It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fred Snell on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, surrounded by family and friends, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Alder Point, Fred was the only son of the Late Fred and Connie (Arsenault) Snell.
Fred was an electrician by trade and worked at J.R. Rahey’s prior to his illness. He enjoyed playing golf, and hockey and was a fan of the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Blue Jays.
Left to mourn his passing are his brothers, Robbie (Gina) Snell and Todd (Crystal) Snell; sister, Sheila (John) Munroe, all of New Glasgow; grandfather Ephriam 'Eph' Arsenault; goddaughters, Brianna, Alicia and Kelsey MacNeil; special cousin, Donna (Brian) MacNeil, whom he considered a sister; many aunts and uncles including Jerry (Carol), Paul (Adele) and Louise Arsenault, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred also leaves behind many good friends, some which he considered brothers, Daniel, John Paul and Red; special friend, Stephanie Walker and Kevin and Corrine Devoe, who he felt were his second family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by maternal grandmother, Rosina (Constantine) Arsenault, and his paternal grandparents, Lottie and Fred Snell.
At Fred’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 7-9 p.m. at Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne Church, Alder Point, on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Little Bras d’Or.
Donations in Fred’s memory may be made to Northside Hospital Foundation for Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
