HENNING ANKER NORGAARD

HENNING ANKER NORGAARD

Born: March 9th, 1929

Passed in: Merritt, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: September 13th, 2013

Henning (Henry) Anker Norgaard of Merritt passed away on September 13, 2013 at 84 years of age.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Clara, his children Diana (Merritt) and Allen (Kamloops), his granddaughters Elyse (Victoria) and Paige (Kamloops), his brothers Soren and Iver (both of Copenhagen) and many nieces and nephews in Canada and Denmark.

Henry was predeceased by his parents and two siblings Leif (brother) and Dorte (sister).

Henry was born in Frederikshavn, Denmark, March 9, 1929. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 settling in Merritt where he worked at various construction related jobs. He and his wife started Norgaard Ready Mix in 1960. Henry believed strongly that it was not good enough to simply live in a community but rather it was his citizen's responsibility to work to make the community the best possible. During his nearly 6 decades in the Nicola Valley, he dedicated time, energy and resources to projects too numerous to mention here. He served on City Council and many Boards in the community and province, and was a founding member of the BC Ready Mix Concrete Association. One of his greatest pleasures was designing solutions to problems, so much so that his oldest granddaughter nicknamed him "Grandpa Einstein".

All who knew and loved him will miss his quick dry humour, the twinkle in his eye and his mischievous smile.

A Celebration of Henry's Life will be held October 11, 2013 at the Merritt Civic Center at 3:00 p.m.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your favorite local charity.
