It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary Hildegarde Cox at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late David and Sarah (Tobin) Foster.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mary was a member of Holy Family parish (the former St. Pius X Church) and devout Catholic. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary branch 8 Legion, Sydney Mines, and the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club. Mom loved a good game of bingo and cards.
She is survived by her daughters, Theona (Bob) Anderson, Anne Marie (Calvin) Payne, Port aux Basques, Edie (Jock) Brown, Theresa Young, Florence, Lynn Gillam, North Sydney, Maureen (Brian) Snow, Sydney Mines, Carol McLeod, Alberta; sons, Guy (Susie), Gary (Donna), Sydney Mines, Raymond, Port aux Basques; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as sisters-in-law, Edith Foster, Madelaine Foster and brother-in-law, Jim MacDonald.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, son, David, daughter, Elizabeth and son, Raymond in infancy, brothers, Tommy, Billy, Cyril and sister, Theresa.
The family will receive visitors today, Sept. 26 and Friday Sept. 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Parish on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Shore Road, Sydney Mines.
Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
