Lona Urquhart

URQUHART, LONA MAE - (1929 – 2013) Mrs. Lona Mae Urquhart of North Head Grand Manan Island passed away Thursday September 26, 2013 following a brief illness at the Grand Manan Hospital. She was born in Grand Harbour the daughter of the late Archie and Elva (Dakin) Green. Lona raised her family, loved knitting sock feet and Mary Maxim sweaters. She worked over the years boning herring, packing sardines, and also worked hard with her husband Malcolm to support their family fishing business in any way she could. She is survived by her daughter Beth (Curtis) Wilcox of North Head. Her two sons; Brian (Janie) Urquhart, and Barry (Anzonette) Urquhart both of Castalia. One sister Doris Huckins, and one sister-in-law Gwendolyn Green both of Grand Harbour. Eight grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends that will truly miss her. Lona was predeceased by her husband Malcolm, one grandchild Aaron, two sisters; Lila Harris, and Shirley Parker. Her twin brother Laurence (Bud), and also her brother Merrill. Lona’s family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, and entire Staff of the Grand Manan Hospital for the love and care they provided for Lona in her final days.
Visiting will take place at Ells Funeral Home Friday from 7-9 PM. The funeral service will take place at the Community Life Church on Saturday September 28, 2013 at 1:30 PM with Rev. Dr. Jeff Benson officiating. The interment will follow at the North Head Community Cemetery. The family has requested that donations may be made to the Charlotte County Cancer Society, the Grand Manan Hospital Foundation, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
