LARRY RICHARD SANDERS
February 27, 1948 - September 27, 2013
Larry passed away suddenly at the age of 65, on Friday, September 27, 2013 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Edna of Keswick, ON; Larry is survived by his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Angela Nunweiler; daughter Joanna of Regina, SK; son Julian (Robin) of Saskatoon, SK; two grandchildren, Amelia and Xavier; sister Louann (Joseph) of Frankfort, KY; sister-in-law Linda (Wes) Norheim of Regina, SK; sister-in-law Alice (Terry) Courte of Powell River, BC; brother-in-law Alf (Verna) Nunweiler of Prince George, BC; brother-in-law Art (Anita) Nunweiler of Prince George, BC; brother-in-law Vern (Dar) Nunweiler of Hanna, AB; brother-in-law Mel Nunweiler of Kelowna, BC. Larry will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Born in Oxbow, SK in 1948, Larry spent his early years in Carnduff, SK. After moving to Toronto, ON in 1952, he graduated with honours from North Albion Collegiate Institute in 1966. Larry would often share stories of the many wonderful family and friends he knew and loved in Thistletown and of his summer trips back to Carnduff, where he worked in the Sanders Family Store.

After attending the University of Toronto, he moved back to Prince Albert, SK where he worked as a project officer and a self-employed researcher and writer. It was in Prince Albert where he met the love of his life, Angela Nunweiler. Larry and Angie were married in Saskatoon on September 24, 1975 and recently celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary.

In 1975, Larry began his career in journalism with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in Inuvik, NWT. It was in Inuvik where his children, Joanna and Julian, were born. In 1977, Larry and the family moved to Thunder Bay where he worked for the CBC as a reporter and senior editor until 1989. Afterwards, he ran his own freelance communications company, Northern Insights, writing numerous weekly columns for Northern Ontario newspapers. He later became the editor of Wawatay News.

In 1998, Larry and Angie moved back to Regina where he worked as a dedicated federal civil servant until his retirement in 2009. After retiring, Larry enjoyed writing, researching and guest lecturing at the University of Regina. As a devoted life-long learner, he obtained a Certificate in Administration from the University of Regina in 2002 and was pursuing a Masters degree from the University of Athabasca at the time of his passing. He was devoted to social justice causes, as well as being an active community volunteer, a regular blood donor, and an avid Blue Jays baseball and Saskatchewan Roughriders football fan.

Larry dearly loved all of his family and countless close friends. He devoted most of his spare time to ensuring everyone was well taken care of and provided many memorable waffle brunches and turkey dinners.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. A wake will be held later that evening at Bushwakker Brewpub, 2206 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK at 7:00 p.m.
