It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Francis Weir on September 29th 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a fire.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Jim and Annie Weir.
John was employed with CN Marine/Marine Atlantic until his retirement in 1998. During his retirement years he kept busy working, offering his services hauling coal, metal and anything he could fit in his truck. From building his home to mechanical repairs, Johnny was known to everyone as an all around handy man. He also enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife Gloria; son John David (Lisa); daughters Gloria, Debbie (Peter) and Cheryl Clark; ten grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren as well as three sisters Marilyn, Shirley and Beverly.
Besides his parents John was predeceased by a brother Melvin.
Cremation has taken place, under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines . A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 3rd, 2013 at Carman United Church Sydney Mines, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
