Edna Jasper

Edna Jane Jasper (Grandma Joe) nee Gibbs passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital at the age of 90. She was born on February 20, 1923 on the family farm in the Blue Hill District to Sarah and William Gibbs. She attended Elarton and Briercrest Schools. After Normal School in Moose Jaw, she taught at Elarton, Lake, Prince Arthur and Briercrest Schools. Edna married Joe Jasper in 1954. They made their home 6 miles west of Briercrest a.k.a. the Jasper corner, then later moved into the town of Briercrest. Edna resided in Briercrest until 2007, she then moved to the Mulberry, and later took up residence at Chez Nous. Her church life was extremely important to her and she was highly involved in most community groups. Edna loved visiting with family and friends, playing cards and scrabble. She passionately crocheted an afghan (or 2) for every family member, every newly married couple and many new born babies. Edna will be deeply missed by her children John (Lori) Jasper, Calgary; and Helen (Dale) Whitfield, Briercrest; grandchildren Nancy (Lee) Anthony, Michael (Amanda) Whitfield and Tyson (Elle) Jasper; great-grandchildren Wyatt, Alexa and Josie Anthony; special nieces and nephew Edith Phillips, Shirley O’Donnell, Linda Sempel, Karen Runzer, Grace Gibbs and Bill Gibbs; great-niece Kristen (Doug) Brooke and great- nephew Robert (Jenn) Runzer; great-great-nieces and nephews; Jillian, Alaina and Adam Brooke and Joel and Regan Runzer as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Edna was predeceased by her husband Joe Jasper, her brother Jim Gibbs, special sister-in-law May Gibbs and special nephews Ken Sempel and Wilfred Runzer. The celebration of Edna’s life will be held on Monday, October 7 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrews United Church, 60 Athabasca St.E., Moose Jaw. Glenys Grosnick will officiate. Lunch will follow at Briercrest Community Center. Flowers are gratefully declined.
