Allister Hamilton

HAMILTON, ALLISTER C. (1929 - 2013) - Allister C. Hamilton of Riverview passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Friday October 11, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of declining health following a stroke in January 2010. Born in Stellarton, NS, he was the son of the late Cecil and Gertrude (Stone) Hamilton. Allister retired in 1985 following a 35-year career with CN, where he was Assistant Superintendent - Mechanical. He cherished time spent with family and friends, most importantly his grandchildren. Allister was truly at home when he was at the summer cottage in Barachois on the Bras d'Or Lakes in Cape Breton where he loved to fish as it was his passion. Allister was a former member of the Beausejour Curling Club; he was known for having a green thumb and could make just about anything grow, just about anywhere. Allister had a love for and knowledge of world history and politics. He will be dearly missed by his wife Betty (Morrison) Hamilton; daughter Linda Poirier of Riverview; sons Terrence (Rosanne) of Barrie, ON and James (Carol) of Rothesay; grandchildren Ross Poirier, Shawn and Craig Hamilton, Erin and Amy Hamilton; sisters June Wadden-Fraser (Doug) of Pictou County, NS, Iza MacDonald (Fraser) of Penticton, BC, and Helen Benjamin (Wyman) of Dartmouth, NS; brothers Vernon Hamilton of Regina, SK, and the Rev. Donald Hamilton (Jeannine) of Ste-Anne-de-Kent, NB, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his his first wife Isabel (Fraser) Hamilton and his step-mother Violet Dickinson.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb's Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007) on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM, with the funeral service to be held from Cobb's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Wednesday October 16, 2013 at 11 AM with his brother the Rev. Donald Hamilton officiating. The interment will be at the Bridgeville Cemetery, Bridgeville, NS. In lieu of flowers donations to The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation, NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
