WHELTON, DOROTHY - 1908 - 2013 - At the age of 105, Dorothy Mary Whelton, from Black Rock passed away peacefully Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, NB. Dorothy was born on August 26, 1908 in Black Rock, NB. She was the daughter of the late Edward Whelton Sr. and the late Mary Louise (Thompson) Whelton. She is survived by her sisters Caroline and Mary and brothers Joseph and John and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her sisters Nina, Mildred, Nora, Helen and Bernadine; and brothers Bedford, Willard, George, Byron, Vincent, Edward and Donald. Dorothy graduated from the Tracadie Convent and attended the Provincial Normal School Teacher's College in Fredericton. She taught for many years in local schools retiring from her career at Chalmer's School in Bathurst. She was a conscientious, caring and dedicated teacher. Dorothy was an accomplished pianist. Many sing songs were enjoyed around Dorothy playing the piano. She loved her family, friends and neighbours dearly serving all with devotion and commitment. Her interests included music, gardening, cooking, needlework and travelling. She was a member of the St-Simon & St-Jude Catholic Church; St St-Simon & St-Jude Catholic Woman's League; the Pokeshaw and Black Rock Recreation Centre; The Irish Canadian Cultural Association of New Brunswick, Bathurst Branch; the N.B. Retired Teacher's Association and was an avid supporter of the Terry Fox Run. Dorothy will be long remembered for the Sunday Night card games at the homestead in Black Rock. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Barnhill, Dr. Pari, the staff of 4 East at the Chaleur Regional Hospital and her caregivers over the past years.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9pm and Friday, October 18, 2013 from 1 pm to 3:30 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, October 18, 2013 at the St-Simon & St-Jude Roman Catholic Church in Grande-Anse. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Donation may be made to the St-Simon & St-Jude Church building fund. Funeral arrangements are in care of LeGresley Funeral Home.
