Betty MacLeod, 82, of Grove Street, Glace Bay, passed away suddenly on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at her residence.
Born in Port Caledonia, she was the daughter the late George and Elizabeth (Derbyshire) Crocker.
Betty was employed at Jay’s Restaurant, Glace Bay for many years. She had a great zest for life and loved to travel. Betty was known to have a straight forward approach to life; she expected this from herself and others. She was a member of the Tower Road Fire Department and Legion Dart League and Mixed League. She was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Glen) Tredwell, Marconi Towers; four sons, Graham (Brenda), Calgary, John Arthur (Evelyn), Northside East Bay, Eric (Margie), Ontario, Ron, at home on Grove Street; four sisters, Olive Brown (Art), Jeanette Wagg (husband, Ron, deceased), Donna Babstock (husband, Winston, deceased), Debbie Lockwood (Dan); two brothers, Jack Crocker (Dena), Arthur Crocker (Betty Lou); 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Wesley MacLeod, two brothers, Kent and Frank Crocker and a granddaughter, Brianna.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Vernon Reid is Friday morning at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery on Maple Avenue. All are invited to join the family for a reception in the church hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Betty, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation.
