Lilian Stright
STRIGHT, LILIAN - 1905 - 2013 - The death of Lilian Stright, widow of the late Heath Stright, occurred at Countryside Residence on 15 October, 2013. Born in Harbour Grace NL, she was the daughter of the late Wiliiam and Eliza (Dove) Ashe. At an early age, due to the illness and death of her mother, she came to live in Spence Settlement with her Aunt and Uncle, Emma and George Grant. Throughout the years, she maintained a close relationship with the Grant family and looked upon her cousins, Carrie, Grace, Mary and Madeline as sisters. After graduating from Teacher's College in Fredericton, NB, she taught in several schools in the Port Elgin/Bayfield area. Her first school was at Malden, and the last year before returning at the Regional Memorial School in Port Elgin, NB. Along with raising a family and teaching, Lilian enjoyed many hobbies from painting, quilting, tatting and other crafts, to teaching them to family and friends. She continued with these endeavors when she moved from Bayfield to Oromocto, NB to be closer to other family members. After an illness, she lived at a special care home in Gagetown, NB, and then decided she wanted to be closer to home, residing at Countryside Residence in Port Elgin. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Church, Bayfield and the recepient of the UCW Lifetime Membership, and the Queen's 60th Jubilee Medal. Lilian will be sadly missed by daughters, Shirley Wall, Elizabeth (Boyd) Leeworth, and son Vance Stright; seven grandchildren, Bruce, Marty and Darcy Wall, Kelly Ann Stright, Gregory and Kevin Leeworthy and Pam (Ken) Baldin; six great grandchildren, Greg, Josh, Jeremy, Jessica, Myles and Savannah as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Heath, sisters Mary Taylor, Clara Gillard, Emily Sheppard, and brother Charles, cousins Carrie Beers and Grace Johnson, son-in-law Douglas wall and a daughter-in-law, Carol Stright.
Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, Sackville, NB, (506-364-1300). A funeral service for Lilian will be held from the Bayfield United Church on Friday, October, 18, 2013 at 2 pm. Burial to follow in the Bayfield Cemetery. William Drysdale DLM officiating.
