James Edward Price

Born In: North Sydney

Passed in: Caledon, Ontario, Canada
Passed on: October 13th, 2013

Passed away at his home in Caledon, Ont., on Oct. 13, 2013, at the age of 83.
Brother to Thomas, Lewis, Anne, Edith and the late Joseph. Husband to the late Patricia Joy Price and spouse to Geraldine Anne Hurshman and missed by her children Tina and Danny. Father of James III, David, John and the late Mary Price. Beloved by his nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
‘Jimmy’ was born and raised during the Depression in North Sydney, N.S. As the oldest child, he was a natural leader, a true force of nature and was gifted with a mechanical aptitude that would later leave more than a few professional engineers in awe. Moving to Toronto with his family in the late 40s, ‘Jimmy’ was an early member of local 46 (Plumbers and Steamfitters) and went on to own and operate a number of contracting businesses, including Master Mechanical and Industrial Contractors Ltd. His company maintained an engineering sales office in Toronto, a metal fabrication shop in Bolton, and built many projects in Toronto, London and Windsor.
Never happy unless he had a pet project to tinker with, ‘Jimmy’ built the first machine to be certified for automated high pressure pipe welding in Canada. Although there were many ‘ups and down’ in the fortunes of his business, ‘Jimmy’ never knelt before any man nor missed an opportunity to lift another man up when he could. ‘Jimmy’ was 100 per cent authentic, original and the product of a unique time and place. We will not see his like again.
A memorial service will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, Ont., 905-727-5421 on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at 3 p.m. with visitation from 2 p.m.
Memorial donations to Red Cross would be appreciated.
