It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Anna "Ruth" Boss, age 85 of Maccan. Ruth passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash.
Born in Upper Nappan, she was a daughter of the late Price and Vera (Smith) Read.
Ruth worked as a clerk at the 2 Barkers Ltd in Amherst from 1942-1949 and later worked in the office at the Maccan Garage from 1962-1974. She was a member of the Nappan United Church, a former member of the Border Rounders Round Dance Club, and the Cumberland Twirlers Square Dance Club. She enjoyed knitting and quilting. Ruth was a committed blood donor, giving 93 units of blood to the Red Cross Blood Clinics.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Gordon of Maccan; daughters, Joyce (Phillip) Gilbert of Maccan and Susan (Phillip) Smith of South Athol; a son, Keith (Clarice) of Lower Sackville, NS; a sister, Elsie Wilson of Maccan; a brother Everett (Marion) Read of Halifax; eight grandchildren, Andrew, Denise, Heidi, Jennifer, Jeffery, Julie, Christine and Nicholas; and great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas, Layton and Richard Read.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (667-8777). Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service for Ruth will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 2 pm from the funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Amherst Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of East Cumberland Lodge for the loving care they have provided.
Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Ruth may do so to Nappan United Church, The Alzheimers Society, East Cumberland Lodge or a charity of choice.
