With great sadness the children of Phyllis R. Hezzelwood (formerly Emberley) announce her peaceful passing on October 13, 2013 at her home in Chico, California. Phyllis was born in St. John’s on December 1, 1926, to George and Fannie Emberley. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Loren B. Hezzelwood, her brothers Bill, Ralph, Eric, Otto, and George, her sister Viola, and her first-born son George Hezzelwood. She is survived by three of her sisters, Joan Taylor, Shirley Neuss and Betty Allix, her sons William and Larry, her daughter Pamela Radke, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Phyllis married Loren Hezzelwood in April, 1946 when he was stationed in St. Johns with the U.S. Navy. They moved to his home state of Iowa where Loren attended Drake University and began his career in the life and health insurance business in 1947. Phyllis and "Woody", as Loren was called, made a happy home for their children and made many adjustments as his insurance career progressed and they relocated several times, finally settling in the Los Angeles area in 1960. In 1983 Phyllis became a United States Citizen. After Loren retired from the insurance business they made their final move to Chico, California in 1991. Phyllis was a supportive and much-loved wife and mother who will be sorely missed by all who knew her. A private family burial at sea will be held at a date to be determined.
