NEVES, LESTER HEDLEY - (1935 - 2013) - Mr. Lester H. Neves of Castalia Grand Manan Island passed away Friday, October 25, 2013 while visiting his daughter in Halifax, NS. Born in Hardings Point, NB he was the son of the late Lottie (Allan) and Roy Neves. In 1960 Lester married Norma and soon after Grand Manan Island became home. Lester was known as the “Breadman” before working for Coastal Transport for over twenty-five years. He was also known for his repair skills and was the Island’s dependable appliance repair man for many years, helping folks with their fix it problems. Finding him in the woods at his camp was easy, he spent many hours hunting, tapping Maple Syrup in the early spring, or just enjoying the fellowship of his friends. Lester was a faithful servant of the Lord and was Superintendent of the North Head Wesleyan Church Sunday School, sat on the Board of Deacons, attended Bible Study and Prayer Groups. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years Norma (Naves) of Castalia, three daughters; Jennifer (Peter McLaughlin) Neves of Castalia, Wendy (David) McRea of Hampton, NB, Virginia (Oleg) Veselskiy of Halifax, NS, two sons; Arthur (Kendra) Neves of Castalia, and Garth (Cathy) Neves of St. George, NB, one sister Berenice (Leonard) Blizzard of Kingston Peninsula, NB, also his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his many friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers; Gordon, Perry, George, and Harold, also his mother-in-law Alma Naves and his father-in-law Addison Naves.
Visiting will take place at the North Head Wesleyan Church on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The funeral service will take place from the church on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Jasper Rideout officiating. There will be a reception immediately following the service. The interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Lester’s family has requested that donations may be made to the Charlotte County Cancer, North Head Wesleyan Church, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
