Evelyn Mae Aasen passed away at the Coronach Health Centre on October 27, 2013 at the age of 97 years. She was born to Laura and Mervyn Goodwin on October 21, 1916 at Colgate, SK. She grew up and was educated in the McCord area. On November 14, 1935 she married Olaf Aasen and they were blessed with 60 years together. They resided in the McCord area and also Congress after which they moved to Moose Jaw in 1942. Calgary became their home in 1962 where they resided until their return to Moose Jaw in 1988. Evelyn was a beloved wife and mother to her 5 children. When they grew older she worked as a commercial seamstress. After the passing of her husband in 1995 she moved to Coronach to be closer to family. Evelyn was a devoted Christian and attended the Church of Christ. She was a lady who carried herself with class, grace and dignity. Known for considering others above herself, Evelyn was loved and admired by all who knew her. She could see a silver lining in every cloud and viewed each day as a gift. She enjoyed camping and traveling through which she made many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Olaf A. Aasen, her parents Laura and Mervyn Goodwin, sisters Muriel (Earl) Jacobs and Helen (Ed) Elford, brother-in law Cal Young, son-in-law Charles Marshall, daughters-in-law Marsha Aasen and Pat Walls, 2 grandsons Monte and Barry Marshall, and grandsons-in-law Marlon Shenner and Ron Short. Mom leaves behind her 5 loving children: Audrey Marshall (Eddie Millard), Delmer Aasen, Wendell Aasen (Carole), Darrell Aasen, and Sandra Nerland (Ken). Also surviving her are 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; brother Gordon Goodwin (Mildred), sister Irene Young; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her life will be celebrated at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel, Moose Jaw on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 1:30 pm. Conducting the service will be her grandson, Paul Nerland, after which she will be laid to rest beside Olaf at Sunset Cemetery, Moose Jaw.
