Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Connaigre Peninsula Health Centre at the age of 95, Mabel Elizabeth ( Power ) Baker. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her children: Eileen (John Houlihan), Eric (Linda) , Betty (Bernard Delaney), Christine ( Fred Layman ), Josephine ( Tom Griffin ), John ( Debbie ), Winnie ( Steve Tapper ), Ronald, Anne ( Camillus Hinks ) and Robert; as well as her sisters, Florence Hynes and Violet (Pat Jarvis). Mabel was blessed with 36 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren who will miss her warm hugs and big smiles. Mabel was pre-deceased by her husband of 68 years, John Ben Baker in 2006; sons: William and David; sisters: Eileen, Minnie, Rose, Clara and Margaret; brothers: John and David. As well, a large number of nieces, nephews and friends also cherished her and will miss her dearly.
The Mass of Christian Burial took place 11:00am, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at St Joseph’s Parish, Harbour Breton with Father Justin Dawson presiding. Visitation took place Thursday and Friday 2:00 - 4:00pm and 7:00- 9:00pm at Spencer’s Funeral Home in Harbour Breton. Flowers were welcomed or a donation can be made in Mabel’s name to St. Joseph’s Parish.
