FERRIS, WALTER - It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Harold Ferris, age 85, of Wickham, NB, which occurred at the Riverdale Manor in Hampton, NB on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Walter was born on March 17, 1928 in Saint John, NB, the step-son of the late Willard and Margaret Golding. At the age of seven Walter moved to a large farm in Wickham to live with his step parents. Walter was an active member of the Wickham United Baptist Church, and before electric heat he started the fire in the church at 5:00am every Sunday morning. Walter had a great fondness for Purple Martin birds that migrated to his farm from Brazil each spring. He had many beautiful bird houses, some even heated, in case the birds came too early. Walter had accumulated the largest colony of Purple Martins in New Brunswick. Walter also accumulated many, many friends. Walter was a kind, loving, and gentle man who will be greatly missed by his fellow residents and staff of Riverdale Manor and all who knew him. Besides his step parents, Walter was predeceased by his step brother, George Bowes.
He is resting at Sherwood's Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre, (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, with visiting on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 4 to 7pm. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Jim Touchbourne, will be held from Sherwood's Chapel, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2013. Interment will take place in Wickham Cemetery. Donations in memory of Walter, may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or to the memorial of the donor's choice.
