Lorna (Mancini) Connors
Passed in: Sydney River
Passed on: November 10th, 2013
With broken hearts, we regret to announce the sudden passing of Lorna Connors, daughter of the late Joseph and Sadie (Lamey) Mancini, on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at the age of 71.
Lorna was born and raised in Sydney Mines, but lived for most of her life in Sydney River.
She was a 1962 graduate of St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in North Sydney, and retired in 2000, after many years as a pediatric nurse at St. Rita Hospital, and later the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
A devout Catholic, she was a longstanding member of Our of Lady of Fatima parish.
Lorna had a great sense of humor, a zest for life, and enjoyed nothing more than spending evenings around the dinner table with her beloved family and friends. Times spent with Gerry and their great friends at the Sydney Curling Club and Seaview Golf & Country Club were a source of pleasure for her.
Her greatest joy, however, was her role as treasured grandmother to her five grandchildren. They will miss Lorna’s loving presence in their lives.
Lorna was married for 49 years to the love of her life, Gerry Connors. They were very much looking forward to celebrating their Golden wedding anniversary this coming June. She is survived by her husband, Gerald; cherished children, Kelly (Erin), Westmount, Tara (Loli) Connors-Torres, Coxheath, and Cory (Wynter), Timberlea; beloved grandchildren, Aidan, Clare, Andreas, Ella and Brynn; sisters, Marlene (Danny) Carmichael, Natick, Mass., and Bernice King, Sydney Mines; sisters-in-law, Florence Axworthy, Alice Mancini; and many nieces and nephews.
Lorna was predeceased by brothers, Joe and Ronnie, her niece, Michelle and nephew, Kevin.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Connors will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in memory of Lorna may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or a charity of your choice.
