Rodney Pike

PIKE, RODNEY J. "ROD" - May 4, 1958 - November 11, 2013 - Passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 11, 2013 at the age of 55, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband and best friend of Deborah Pike (nee Whittemore). Proud and loving father of Alexandra and Ryan. Survived by his parents, James and Hazel Pike of Fredericton, NB, sister Kathryn (Don Turner), brother David (Pauline), nieces and nephews. He will be missed by parents-in-law, Blair and Mary Whittemore of Montreal, brothers-in-law, Blair Whittemore (Alanna), David Whittemore (Jackie), sister-in-law, Katherine (Don Jackson). Rod was born and raised in New Brunswick and was a proud Maritimer. After graduating from UNB he went on to a successful banking career. He was part of the Royal Bank family for 18 years, throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario. In 2000, he joined MBNA Canada, then Bank of America, in Ottawa and the UK, last serving as CEO of BofA Canada Bank. Rod faced his illness as he lived his life: with quiet determination, incredible strength, and always, with a sense of humour. Somehow, we left his side feeling comforted, even as we had intended to bring comfort to him. It was just his way. Our family would like to thank the staff at the Ottawa Hospital and Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital for their compassionate care; and especially Dr. Harold Atkins, for his wisdom and guidance on a difficult journey. Rod was blessed with a strong family, amazing friends and colleagues, all of whom supported our family every day. We never walked alone.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the St Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) on Friday, November 15 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 1171 Smith Road, Navan ON. Reception to follow at St. Mary’s Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, in memoriam donations to The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation or St. Mary’s Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family.
