Ione Briscoe (nee Cameron) was born in Emo, Ontario. She was one of six siblings that moved with their parents to Burnaby, BC, where Ione attended grade school. She went into the field of nursing and worked at various hospitals, including Riverview Hospital (Essendale). Ione married Hubert Grunenberg and the two raised their family in Surrey, BC. Ione obtained Registered Nurse status at UBC in 1972 and worked as a nurse at Surrey Memorial Hospital. Ione remarried Edward James Briscoe, and the two constructed their beloved "Turtlehead" home in Belcarra, BC, where they lived out the remainder of their lives together. Ione and Edward enjoyed the Vancouver Opera and Symphony as well as other cultural events. Ione leaves behind three sons, Ken, Craig, Perry and their families. Ione was multi-talented, and perhaps a little eccentric, as an artist, seamstress, gardener, cook, lover of fancy hats, and family gatherings.
