
Robert Rushbrook
RUSHBROOK, ROBERT J. - (June 5, 1922 - November 7, 2013) - Bob passed away peacefully on November 7, 2013 at age 91. He is survived by his daughter Susan (Ron) Gladiuk , Abbotsford, BC, son David Rushbrook (Lucie Matteau) and grandchildren Gabriel and Camie, Whistler, BC. Sisters, Betty (Jack) Burrows, Fredericton NB, Anne (Vince) Billard, Halifax, NS and Brother Donald (Greta) Rushbrook, Fredericton. He was predeceased by his son John Robert Rushbrook (1958 – 1962) and one brother, William also of Fredericton. Bob, a World War II veteran, served with the 1st Canadian Division, 4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. He was always proud of their role in the Liberation of Holland. In 1999 Bob initiated Project Maple Leaf in support of the Welcome Again Veterans Foundation at Holten Canadian War Cemetery. Bob wrote the poem “Silent Stones” to recognize the Dutch schoolchildren who, every year pay tribute to the fallen. Bob had a long and distinguished flying career. As First Officer and Captain, he was a DEW Line pioneer, “flying the Line” in the high Arctic during the 1950s & 60s. He later became a commercial airline pilot with Nordair. Bob maintained a lifelong passion for learning. He was an avid photographer and at age 81, learned to use a computer. The Internet allowed him to reach out to family, friends and colleagues and brought the world to his doorstep. Sharp of mind, meticulous and independent to the end, he lived in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, short distance from Dorval Airport. Bob will be interred in The Field of Honour in Pointe Claire. Donations of remembrance may be made to the Last Post Fund National Field of Honour.
