Phyllis Muriel Travers (Campbell)

Phyllis Muriel Travers (Campbell)

It is with great sadness that her family announces the passing of Phyllis Muriel (Campbell) Travers on November 14, 2013, at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
Born February 2, 1926, in Lake Megantic, Quebec, to Clifford and Marion Campbell (Munro), Phyll enrolled in the School for Nurses at the Jeffery Hale’s Hospital in Quebec City in 1944. During her first year of study, she met Arthur Hudson Travers, the RCAF pilot from Prince Edward Island, who became the man of her life for almost 70 years. Phyll and Art were married on August 11, 1945, and Phyll graduated as an RN in 1947. As Phyll had been an only child, she was anxious to fill their home with a large family. Art and Phyll settled in Ste Foy, Quebec, where they raised their six children. Phyll was active with the Trinity Anglican Church and the IODE. In 1979, Phyll and Art relocated to Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. Phyll continued to be involved with the Anglican Church and also worked with the Halifax Regional School Board as a teacher’s assistant for children with special needs. Phyll and Art were able to build their dream cottage, fondly named APILAPSANT, on part of the original Travers family farm property in Kildare Capes, P.E.I. APILAPSANT became the focal point of many gatherings of family and friends, supervised by Phyll who was considered by all as the consummate hostess. In 2003, Phyll and Art relocated once more to Alberton, P.E.I., to be closer to the cottage and their Island family. Both continued their devotion to the Anglican faith through their involvement with Christ Church, Kildare Capes and St Peter’s Church, Alberton.
Phyll is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Art; children, Ian (Lynne Wilson) in Cole Harbour, N.S., Laurie (Neil Sedgwick) in Priddis, AB; Anne (Ron Fourney) in Orleans, ON; Pam (Doug Rideout) in Upper Tantallon, N.S.; Scott (Debbie DeWolfe) in Kildare Capes, P.E.I.; and Andrew (Heather Carroll) in Bedford, N.S. Also survived by 13 grandchildren (Evan, Kristen, Robyn, Rhys, Adam, Chris, Alex, Cameron, Steven, Tyler, Brywinn, Emma and Liam) and two great-grandchildren (Owen and Ethan). Predeceased by her cousin The Very Rev. Austin Munroe and his wife Verna.
Visitation at Rooney’s Funeral Home, Alberton, on Saturday, November 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service on Monday, November 18, at 11 a.m., St Peter’s Anglican Church, Alberton. Reception to follow.
Art, his children and their spouses would like to sincerely thank the paramedics, nurses, and physicians of Island EMS, the Western Hospital and Prince County Hospital who provided exemplary and compassionate care throughout Phyll’s journey.
The family also thanks Rev. Paul Wilkie and Rev. Andrew Mortimer for their spiritual support to Art and family over the past several days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christ Church Memorial Fund or the Prince County Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
