SYLVIA CHRISTINE BABISH

SYLVIA CHRISTINE BABISH

Passed in: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Passed on: November 9th, 2013

Sylvia Christine Babish passed away peacefully at the South Health Campus Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on November 9, 2013 at the age of 90 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Alexander in 1999 and daughter Sandra in 2009.

Sylvia is survived by her loving daughter Joanne, grandson Michael (Shannon), great-grandsons Callum, Austin and Landon and granddaughter Jodi.

Sylvia was born in Norway and came to Canada with her family at the age of 5. They settled in Edmonton where, at the age of 18, Sylvia met and married Alexander Babish. The couple spent the war years in Victoria and afterwards settled in Vancouver where they raised their daughters and owned and operated various successful bakeries. A fond memory of those days were the races Sylvia and Alexander would have getting home from the bakery in separate cars, Sylvia often the speed demon of the pair. Sylvia was a gifted artist and cake decorator and some of her greatest accomplishments were decorating cakes for Ann Murray and Tom Jones. Sylvia and Alex retired in 1980 and relocated to Surrey where they spent many happy years with frequent visits from their daughters and grandchildren. In 2001, Sylvia moved to Kamloops to be closer to her family and, eventually, made her home at the Active Care Senior Services Centre, where she made many friends. In September 2013, Sylvia once again relocated to Okotoks to be able to spend more time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We are very thankful to have been able to have this precious time with her. Sylvia was a very special and beautiful soul and will be missed dearly.

A very special thank you to the staff at Active Care Senior Services where she lived for almost 8 years.
