Born In: New Waterford
Passed in: New Waterford
Passed on: November 17th, 2013
It is with broken hearts that we the family sadly announce the passing of our father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Wilfred Joseph Crummey, on Nov. 17, 2013, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Eli and Mary (Dalton) Crummey.
He enjoyed the company of his family and enjoyed going for breakfast with his grandson Derek and for drives around town. He would often park out at the cove and watch the boats.
Big in stature and even bigger in personality, he wasn't someone you would meet and soon forget. He was a hardworking man his whole life. He was a coal miner in the #12 mine.
He is survived by his daughters, Lorraine (Joe) Martell, Sydney, Marilyn (Ricky) Campbell, Lingan; son, Wilfred Crummey, Ontario; sisters, Leona Miller, Mary (Willie) Hurley, Irene 'Rene' MacDonald, Joan (Ray) Connell; grandchildren, Lisa Crummey, Kimberley, Derek and Gordie; great-grandchildren Olivia, Mya, Jorden, Brenden, Kegan, Emma and Marcus and Dreyden Crummey.
He was especially proud of the newest addition of the family, great-grandson Dreyden Eli Crummey, who was named after his father Eli Crummey.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Irene (Wilson) Crummey, brothers, Tom Gillis, Sandy Gillis, sisters, Abby Smith and Pheobe (Fahey) MacDonald.
Cremation has taken place. A chapel service to celebrate Wilfred’s life will be held Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at 11 a.m. in McLellan Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial in St. Agnes cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the parish hall, Convent Street. All are welcome.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500.
