Lillian Dorothy Folk, known as Dorothy Folk, passed away in Fort St. John, BC on August 5th 2013 at the age of 85. Dorothy was born to Emery & Mary Scott in Bengough, Saskatchewan on August 29th 1927 and was the 2nd youngest of their 12 children. At 16, Dorothy met the love of her life, Mike Folk, whom she later married and shared 43 wonderful years with before his passing in 1987. Together they raised a large family, including 11 natural and 4 foster children. Today, their family has branched out to include more than 120 members.
Nothing was more important to Dorothy than her faith and her family and she dedicated her life to both. Called the Mother Teresa of Fort St. John, she had recently received an award of recognition from The Roman Catholic Church for her life-long service to the church. No one was more surprised by this honour than Dorothy herself for she was a humble woman concerned only with spreading the word of God and helping others.
Dorothy loved to be surrounded by family and friends and hosted gatherings as often as she could as her motto was ‘the more the merrier’. She had a passion for life and enjoyed dancing, reading, playing cards, and traveling. Despite the many new faces that joined the family, she always remembered names and birth dates and astonished everyone with her incredible memory for details. Dorothy was a maverick. She was handy with most tools; could plumb and wire a house; and was always ready with new ways to solve old problems. She was an extremely hard worker and could often be found working late into the night on one of her many projects. Both she and Mike instilled this strong work ethic into all of their children and this tenacity continues to be shared from one generation to the next. Dorothy leaves behind a great legacy of love and she will be truly missed by all.
