Ruth Marjorie Fawcett Harrison

Ruth Marjorie Fawcett Harrison, age 96 of Springhill passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the High Crest Nursing Home. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Grace (Turner) Fawcett.
Ruth completed nurses training at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow from 1936 - 1939 then continued with Obstetrics Training at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal from 1940 - 1941. She was commissioned in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. in September 1943 as Lieutenant Nursing Sister and served with # 12 Canadian General Hospital in England, France, and Belgium during 1944 - 1945. She was employed with the Springhill Medical Centre from 1959 - 1979. Ruth was an active member of All Saints Anglican Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Pythian Star Temple #8, Springhill. Ruth loved the outdoors, gardening, baseball and working on projects around the house. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, her family and friends could always count on her for help with anything they needed. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was very involved with their lives.
She will be sadly missed by daughters, Catherine Harrison-Smith and Marjorie Harrison Sprague both of Springhill and Elizabeth (Wayne) Damery, of Amherst; sisters, Grace (Ken) Murray, of Dartmouth and Olive Stonehouse, of Springhill; nine grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Monson Harrison; infant son Arthur; brother, Henry and Sister, Gwen.
Arrangements have been entrusted to A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361) from where visitation will be held on Saturday, November 16, from 1-2 pm, a funeral service will follow immediately at 2 pm, The Reverend Tory Byrne officiating.
If so desired, donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the CNIB, the LA Animal Shelter, V.E.T.S. Canada, or a charity of your choice.
