Madeleine Esther "Maddy" Fitzgerald - 87, of Kentville, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in Shannex Blomidon Court, Greenwich, Kings County. Born in Greenfield, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Edith (Schofield) Davison. She enjoyed housework and spent many years working as a housekeeper. She had been employed in the kitchen and cleaning department of the former Nova Scotia Sanatorium, Kentville. She enjoyed music, singing, reading her Bible, travelling, spending time with visitors and she loved her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Melba Blakely, Kentville and Susan "Sue" (Michael "Mike") Graves, New Minas; foster children (whom she loved like her own), Judy, Ontario; Donnie, Coldbrook; sisters, Myrtle (Ealick) Davison, Canaan; Ruth (Joseph) Thomas, Greenfield; brothers, Paul (Beulah), Gaspereau Mountain; Chesley (Terry), Gaspereau; Leo (Carlin), New Minas; Charlton (Shirley), Greenfield; Kenneth (Judy), Gaspereau; Laurie (Sheila), Calgary; grandchildren, Dale, Allan, Heather and Judy; great grandchildren, Justine, Morgan, Ashley and April; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Fitzgerald; twin children, Harland and Harold (in infancy); grandson, Frederick; sisters, Pauline, Marita and Dorothy; brothers, Murray, Roscoe, Bedford and Lawson; son-in-law, Clifford Blakely. Following the death of her husband, Stanley in 1968, she became very close with companion, Byron Schofield (deceased in 2009) and is also survived by his son, Emerson "Em" (Margie) and their family, Sudbury, Ontario. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013, Reverend Barbara Durling officiating. Burial took place in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Blomidon Court, especially David "Dave" Keddy for your care, kindness and compassion. Donations in memory may be made to any charity supporting animals or the I.W.K. Health Centre.
