It is with sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Patrick McNeil, 88, formerly of New Aberdeen and a resident of Taigh Na Mara Nursing Home.
Joe passed away on Nov. 30, 2013, at the nursing home with his family at his side.
Born in Glace Bay, Joe was the son of the late Hector and Euphemia (Shanks) McNeil.
Joe was employed with Devco working in mines #20 and #26 retiring after 45 years of service.
Joe will be sadly missed by daughters, Catherine, Anna Marie (Peter) Slaunwhite; sons, Daniel (Sheila), Hector, Billy (Lisa); special cousin, Jovita Prince; six grandsons; seven granddaughters and several great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his loving wife, Jane (Rogers) McNeil, grandson, Billy, brothers, Jim, Morris, Tommy, Walter and a sister, Delores.
The family would like to thank everyone at Taigh Na Mara for the wonderful care Joe received over the years.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
