Francis Alexander

ALEXANDER, FRANCIS HAZEN - It is with great sadness that the family announces the unexpected death of Francis H. Alexander of Fredericton Junction, NB on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital with his cherished family at his side. Francis grew up on the family farm and after receiving his early education in Fredericton Junction, he graduated from UNB (Forestry). Afterwards he joined the family business, F.C. Alexander Ltd., which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2005. He was an avid outdoorsman and a life-long traveller. He was a tireless supporter of numerous community projects and organizations and was a lifelong member and deacon of the Fredericton Junction United Baptist Church. Nearing the end of his life he became one of the main champions of the Frank and Beatrice Alexander Tri-County Complex and saw it through to its completion and into its operation. His community work was acknowledged in 2012 with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. He is survived by his wife, Jeannine (Tracy) Alexander; his four children Steven (Beatriz Sainz) of Oromocto, NB, Karen (Dave) Duncan of Wolfville, NS, James (Debby) Alexander of Wentworth, NS, Jeffrey (Lorena) Mack of Fredericton, NB and a special niece, Danae Mack of Saskatoon, SK; his grandchildren, Laura (Gordon) McDonald, Joel (Tiara Samson) Alexander, Scott Duncan, Brennan and Eric Mack and his great grandchildren William McDonald and Ridley Alexander. In addition he is survived by his stepson’s Stephen (Derith), Gary (Francine) and Mark (Wanda) Mersereau and their families. He also had several nieces, nephews and many close friends that held a special place in his life. Francis is predeceased by his parents; Frank and Beatrice Alexander, his first wife of 40 years and mother of his children Norma (Smith) Alexander, his brothers Edwin and Brian and his sister Thelma. The family would like to thank Dr. Ann Colpitts and the staff of ER and 4NW at the DECH, especially Melissa, Jessica and Megan, for their kind and compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at the Fredericton Junction United Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 3rd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 4th, 2013 at 11 am. Rev. Jim Harrison will officiate with Father Ken Weir and Rev. Drew Mersereau assisting. A private interment will follow in the Gladstone Cemetery, Fredericton Junction, NB. For those who wish, memorial tributes in Francis’ honor may be made to the Fredericton Junction United Baptist Church and the Frank and Beatrice Alexander Tri-County Complex.
