Georgie Semple

Born In: Stellarton, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Riverton, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: December 4th, 2013

Nov. 23, 1914 – Dec. 4, 2013
Georgie Edwina Semple passed away at Valley View Villa, Riverton, in her 100th year.
Formerly of 341 South Foord Street, Stellarton, she was a daughter of the late David Cullen and Agnes Jane Hazel (Osborne) Semple.
Georgie was a long term personal caregiver in Pictou County where she worked for over 60 years and continued to do so after she moved back home. She loved to do needlepoint, knit, sing and recite verse, go for very long drives and do for others. When Georgie told stories and sang, she was singing and talking about the First World War and the Depression years! She never tired of Mario Lanza’s Christmas carols, enjoying them up to the end. She believed as Charles Dickens once said, “May the spirit of Christmas last all year.” She was our mentor and sidekick.
Georgie is survived by sisters: Isabel Stewart, Stellarton; Mary Pitts, Oakville, Ont.; Gwen Cornwall, Lakefield, Ont.; Joan Kendall, Pembrooke, Ont. and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters: Ola MacNeil, Lillian, Margaret, and Hazel Gadd; brothers: Harvey, Arthur, Samuel, Edwin, David, Howard, Raymond and Gordon.
Special thanks to Betty Burge and Linda Koile for being there and the UCW for their many visits. The family would also like to thank the staff at Valley View Villa for the exemplary care and attention given her during her stay. “God bless!”
There will be no visitation. Burial service will be held on Saturday, Dec.14 at 2 p.m. in Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow with Justin McNeill officiating.
Donations in memory of Georgie may be made to Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton.
