Maynard Gale Burke, 83, Baddeck, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013 in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Maynard was born in Drumhead, N.S. He was a son of late Harold & Nelly (Burke) Burke.
He was a member of Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church and also Knox Presbyterian Church.
Along with his wife, Florence, he is survived by his daughters, Lori (Frank Stratton), Brampton, Ont., Lisa (Jimmy Edwards), Baddeck; sisters, Phyllis Mason, Sherbrooke, N.S., Madeline Burke, Florida.
He was predeceased by brothers, Dean, Wendell and sister, Bernice Mason.
Maynard was a mechanic who owned and operated his own service station in Toronto. After that he worked as a mechanic for Purulator Courier until he retired. He was an associate Legion member at Branch 53 of Baddeck, a member of the Highlands Senior Club, Middle River, and a member of the Free Wheelers in Baddeck.
Funeral under the care and direction of Sunset Funeral Co-Operative. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 in Farquharson Presbyterian Church. Rev Louis Ihasz and Rev Brian MacLeod. Burial to follow in Middle River Cemetery. Tea afterwards at the Middle River Community Hall. The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at the Inverness Manor (Highland Village) for their care and friendship of Maynard during the last year and a half. Additionally, a huge thank you to Dr. Chow, Dr. Genge and the nursing staff at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital for their exemplary care & TLC in his last remaining days.
