Agnes Gibson (Aggie) Hughes MacLean, 93 of Hollow Road, Greenwood, passed away December 10, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Thorburn, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Isabella (Gibson) Hughes.
Aggie was an active member of her community. She was involved in cubs, scouts, Home and School, Trustee of Greenwood School and later served as School Board Member for the Municipality of Pictou County. She was a valued member of the Liberal Association. She was Noble Grand of Dorcas Rebekah Lodge, being a member for 49 years holding the office of treasurer for 35 years. She received the Decoration of Chivalry, the highest honor in the Rebekah Assembly. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church and Past President of the Guild. Aggie was also well known for her pies, soup and cupcakes as well as her knitting skills, ensuring that many children were supplied with mittens each winter.
Aggie is survived by daughters: Sally (Warren) Mason, Bell (Louie) Fraser, of Coalburn, Debbie (George) Cress and son Jimmie (Beth) MacLean of Greenwood, son-in-law Jimmie Grice, Park Falls. She is also survived by her sister Peggy Stewart, Westville, sisters-in-law Catherine Hughes Greenwood and Frances Hughes, Westville. The enjoyment of her life were her grandchildren: Mike (Tina) Fraser, Amanda (Nathan) King, Jyllian, Mason, Sara Cress, Dougie (Kala) MacLean, Krista MacLean, Lori Mason-Anderson, Lisa Mason, Mike (Vye) Mason, Terri Mason, great-grandchildren: Graham, Eric Mason, Brandon Baird, Addison Mathieu Grace Fraser, R.J. Sutherland and Rylan King, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Isabella Hughes, husband of 59 years Jim MacLean, daughter Jo-Anne Grice, grandsons Warren Mason Jr. and Fred Anderson, brothers Edward, William and Harry Hughes.
The family will receive visitors on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow. Funeral service will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn, with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Burial will be in the Thorburn Cemetery.
Dorcas Rebekah Lodge will meet at 6:45 Friday at the funeral home to conduct their tribute service.
Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society or to Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn.
