James (Jim) Galloway

Passed on: December 11th, 2013

Passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, December 11th, 2013 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 84. Beloved husband, best friend and soulmate of 43 years to Audrey. Cherished father of Lorraine Sims, Susan, and John (Karen). Much loved gippy, gramps and grandpa of Jennifer, Wendy, David, Tyler, Sandie, Joel and Danielle. Also remembered by his great-grandchildren Bradley, Logan, Zach, Emma, Grace, and Henry. Dear uncle of Maureen, Carolyn, Linda, Troy and Danny. Jim was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, of Scottish parents (James and Jane). He graduated from Spalding high school and entered the Royal Canadian Air Force where he received his wings. He began his career with Air Canada in 1953 flying DC3s, retiring in 1989 on Boeing 747s. Jim was a very quiet, steady man, known for his love of family, friends and animals. He had a dry, quick wit that has left the family with many one-liners to remember him by. His career brought him around the world, and some of his favourite places were Singapore, Barbados, Montreal, St. John's, Newfoundland, but his all-time favourite place was wherever Audrey was. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Saturday, December 14th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m, and Sunday, December 15th from 10-11 a.m. A celebration of Jim's life will follow in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Memorial donations to the Lincoln County Humane Society would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses at the St. Catharines General Hospital and Hotel Dieu-Shaver, and a good friend Ed Jiskoot, and neighbours Ron and Trish for their kindness and compassion. Jim has taken his final flight to be with those he loved who passed away before him.
