The death of Keith Helm Chappell, 82, of Tidnish Bridge, NS occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday, December 5, 2013. Keith was a son of the late Fred and Pearl (Helm) Chappell.
Keith dedicated his life to the education of others. He was an education graduate of Mount Allison University and taught in numerous locations throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
He was an enthusiastic hobby farmer and gardener, holding the title for the World's Heaviest Pumpkin Champion in 1988. He was a dedicated volunteer and exhibitor at the Digby, Annapolis, Port Elgin and Cumberland County Exhibitions.
Keith was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. To his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as "Joe Buck".
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Ruth (nee Wallis), Tidnish Bridge; three daughters, Kim (Michael Westcott) Ouellette, St. Catherine's, ON, Andrea Chappell, Waterloo, ON, and Michele Chappell, Dartmouth; seven grandchildren, Claire, Maria, Liam and Lydia McInerney and Rejean, Anna and Rosemary Ouellette; as well as a sister, Audrey Chappell of Tidnish Bridge.
Besides his parents, Keith was predeceased by a brother John.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (667-8777). Honoring the wishes of the family, there will be no visitation or services.
