
Maurice Steeves
STEEVES, MAURICE - It is with great sadness that the family of Maurice Raymond Steeves announces his passing at the Moncton City Hospital on December 13, 2013. Born in Elgin, NB, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Ella (nee Shaffer) Steeves. Maurice, also known as “The Gingerbread Man”, along with his wife Joy, owned and operated the Gingerbread House Bakery in Penobsquis for over 30 years. Maurice had a great love for music and in his younger years he sang in a choir and also with a male quartet. Maurice loved the outdoors, and could always be found in the yard or out hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved sharing memories with his story telling. Maurice is survived by his loving wife, Joy (nee Harrison) Steeves; his daughters: Pamela Sheahan (Michael) and Cindy Colwell; his sons: Craig and Raymond Steeves; his grand children: Nikki Colwell, Brittany Hall (Kennedy), Meaghan Steeves, Victoria Sheahan, Brandon Colwell, Denise Steeves and Luke Sheahan; his sisters: Eileen MacCallum (George) and Marilyn Yeomans (Austin); his brother, Winston Steeves (Erna); as well as by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Besides his parents, Maurice was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Francine (nee LeBlanc) Steeves. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank a great friend Wayne Rosehart for all his love and support as well as Dr. Morton, Dr. Alkarain and all the wonderful nurses at the Moncton City Hospital who took great care of Maurice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Armstrong’s Funeral Home, 33 Russell Street, Petitcodiac, from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 17, from 7 to 9pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, at 2:00pm at St. James United Church. Donations to a charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated by the family.
