Constance Elaine White
It is with the greatest sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our loving mother Connie, age 88 on December 16, 2013. Connie was born in Amherst, graduated from High School and Oulton’s Business College. She worked at the Bank, Amherst Central Charge and One Hour Photo as a bookkeeper. Connie enjoyed dancing, skating and playing golf and hockey. She was inducted into the Amherst Sports Hall of Fame for her hockey skills. She was the captain of the Canada Car Hurricanes and won the Nova Scotia Women’s Championship in 1944. Connie was an avid reader and gardener and had a great sense of humour. She enjoyed knitting, playing bridge, coffee club and a good long walk with friends.
Connie's greatest joy was spending time with her family. She followed her husband Shermie around Canada and the US during his professional hockey career. She spent countless hours at the rink watching her sons play hockey and her daughter figure skate. The backyard was always a rink or ball field for everyone to enjoy. Connie loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her home was an open house for them and all their friends. She was an honorary grandma to many. Connie treasured her trips to Florida with her family, she especially enjoyed Disney World. Connie loved animals and her beloved pets were part of her family. She was an amazing mother and grandmother. Lovingly survived by sons Terry (Linda), Scott (Wendy), and daughter Sharman Smith (Roy). Grandchildren: Christopher (Leanne), Matthew (Terri), Adam (Cassidy), Tony, Alycia, Brittany, Christopher, Andrew and Colin. She was blessed to have five great grandchildren. Connie was predeceased by husband Shermie Beverly, parents Lester and Jenn Lowther, sister Phyllis McAlister, brother Creighton Lowther, and granddaughter Kimberley Smith Collins.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Gables Lodge especially South Wing for the loving care they gave our mother. All the staff commented about mom’s amazing smile that brightened everyone’s day. Mom was very happy as a resident because of the great care she received.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, a private burial for the family will take place at a later date. We, Terry, Sharman, Scott and families say our deepest heartfelt goodbye to our very special mother.
Donations in memory of Connie may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, Amherst.
