Kathleen Hagen

Hagen, Kathleen Eleanor (Miller), “a very special mother”, peacefully passed away at the age of 81, on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Kay was born on November 23, 1932, in Malagash, Cumberland Co., and was the daughter of the late Harold Miller and Florence (Teed) Miller. In 1962, Kay married Bill Hagen in Halifax and later moved to Montreal and Toronto, coming back to the Amherst area to settle in 1975. Kay loved playing competitive bridge and was a member of duplicate bridge clubs in Amherst, Truro, Beaconsfield, Que., and Mississauga, Ont. She held special bridge parties for her many Amherst and Truro friends, which later led to the annual bridge weekends at her home in Tidnish and in St. Margaret’s Bay. Kay was completely devoted to her daughters, her family and her many friends. She loved baking, sewing, crafts, reading, crossword puzzles, caring for Claus, chatting and drinking tea with Aunt Anne. We are grateful that Mom was under the compassionate and loving care of the amazing staff at the Windsor Elms. Their kindness and friendships will be fondly remembered. Kay is survived by her daughters, Shelagh Hagen (Richard Jones), Halifax; Kathy (Philip) Hartling, Toronto, Ont.; Debbie (Larry) Roode, Truro; her brother, Carl (Marjorie) Miller, Stettler, Alta.; sister-in-law, Anne Miller, Truro; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William D. “Bill”; brothers, David Miller and Freeman Miller. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, in the Windsor Elms Village Hall, 174 Dyke Road, Falmouth, with the Rev. Debra Mosher officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Wentworth. Arrangements are under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0.
