DAVID WILLIAMSON
January 28, 1926 ~ December 12, 2013
David Williamson, 87, passed away on December 12, 2013, from complications of heart disease. David was born in White Rock on January 28, 1926. He was one of four siblings who grew up in Kerrisdale. He trained as a radio operator and worked for the Department of Transport for many years in remote areas and then in the Castlegar area.
He married Joan Slater, who had moved here from England, and they had a son, Brian Williamson. Sadly, their son predeceased them both at age 27 from cancer. David and Joan moved to Gibsons in 1998. Joan passed away recently on August 22, 2013, also from cancer.
David loved a good discussion an was an avid reader. When his eyesight began to fail, he continued learning new things in science and religion on DVD.
He will be missed by his daughter-in-law Doris Fogarty and her four children, Emily, Oonagh, Finola and Philip, to whom he will always be remembered affectionately as Opie. He will also be missed by his two surviving brothers, Bob and Leonard Williamson, and nieces Kathleen and Carol and their families.
Many thanks to David’s church family at Calvary Baptist for being such a solid support for him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Gibsons. Donations to the Hospice Society, Sechelt, BC.
